Who should go?

For those looking to escape from the bustle of Saigon and into a subdued environment not far from the big city, a stay at Mekong Lodge comes highly recommended. It is by the river and near many of the floating markets, including the famous Cai Be. The resort lacks facilities like swimming pools, gyms and spas which may deter some from staying here, but may actually be a welcoming aspect of a relaxing trip in Southern Vietnam.

When to go?

Although the temperature remains fairly steady throughout the year, Southern Vietnam is marked by two seasons. The dry season lasts from December to May, while from May to November the rainy season kicks in.  Most of the rain is in the afternoon and only lasts a short time so it is unlikely to disrupt touring plans. The Vietnamese New Year called Tet is celebrated throughout the country in late January or early February. During this time, transport options fill up quickly and lots of restaurants and tourist sites are closed so it is not recommended to travel to Vietnam then.
