I have been living and working in Southeast Asia for the last 13 years and was lucky enough to travel to most countries and destinations, while being based in Yangon, Vientiane and Bangkok.

Trekking in Northern Laos with friends, scouting the Chiang Mai region for new tour experiences, diving in Thailand or discovering temples around Angkor that were just reopened to tourists are just a few of the moments I will always remember.

But these days, what I enjoy the most is to drive down from Bangkok to Hua Hin with my wife and two young daughters and unwind in a beach resort while enjoying all the children friendly activities available in and around the town.

We would start our typical Hua Hin day with a large buffet breakfast followed by a few hours playing at the pool or on the beach. Then we would take the car to see the monkeys at Khao Ta Kiep. The kids love to watch the monkeys play and to throw bananas at them. Just make sure you stay close to your children though as the monkeys can be a bit pushy when it comes to free food! The nearby elephant camps are another great place to take your children. Feed the elephant, take a ride or watch a small show and learn about their lives. In the afternoon usually have lunch in one of the many local restaurants serving simple and authentic Thai food. After that, a nap followed by beach activities and more swimming in the pool!

Hua Hin is a great family destination - for young kids as well as older ones. Quad, go karting, paintball or horse riding are just a few of the activities the whole family can enjoy together.

The town center is small and it is always a pleasure to walk around in the evening to and back from the diner. Some of the restaurants on piers offer succulent Thai Seafood dishes, and there are also many good quality and affordable places serving western foods if your kids are carving pizzas, BBQs or ice creams!

As our kids grow up, we will venture further away from Bangkok. A cruise on Halong Bay, a boat trip around Phang Nga Islands, Angkor and Bagan, our future travel plan list is growing every day!
