When to go?
The most popular time for visiting Chiang Mai is the cool season, which runs from December to the end of February, which is also the peak tourist season.   At almost 10°C, it can get chilly in the evenings so a sweater may be necessary.  Daytimes are warmer with an average temperature at around 28°C. By mid-March, daytime maximums may reach 40°C, but usually averages at 35°C. Despite all the moisture in the air, however, there is virtually no rain during this period. Hot and dry weather continues into May. The rainy season starts at the end of May, and lasts until November. The rainy season, which is also the low tourist season, is characterized by torrential downpours, but they tend to be short bursts lasting about an hour. September is the wettest month, with an average precipitation of 250 millimeters.
