Yangon - Golden Rock - Bago - Yangon - Ava - Mandalay - Sagaing - Amarapura - Mandalay - Mt Popa - Bagan - Yangon


 Begin your tour of Myanmar by exploring the diverse range of architecture visible through the city of Yangon. You also visit some of the city's finest temples, including the spectacular Shwedagon Pagoda and Kyaukhtetgyi Pagoda. Spend the day learning about meditation at the renowned meditation centre of Mahasi Monastery, finding peace and inner harmony.

The tour then heads to Kyaikhtiyo and the Golden Rock. Trek up to the gold leaf covered rock and admire the stunning views while learning about its history as a pilgrimage site. Continue your tour of Myanmar by heading to the 16th century Mon Kingdom capital of Bago. Visit small neighborhoods where intricate textiles are still produced by hand and walk past a number of quaint monasteries and nunneries, viewing the peaceful lives of monks and nuns.

From Bago you return to Yangon for a short flight to Mandalay. En-route, visit Ava where a short ferry ride crosses the river to the old wooden Bagaya Monastery. Head back to mandalay and enjoy panoramic views from Mandalay Hill. Then, head to Sagaing, across the Irrawaddy River, home to several grand pagodas and temples.A short car ride takes you to Amarapura, the site of the 200 year old U Bein Bridge. 1.2km in length it is the oldest and longest of its kind in the world. After taking in the sights around Mandalay it's time to visit Mt Popa as you make you way toward the beautiful Bagan.

After trekking to the summit of Mt Popa and spending the night there, you will drive to Bagan and spend the first evening perusing the temples in a horsecart ride, stopping at one to watch the magnificent sun set over the temple laden plains. A full day spent sightseeing in Bagan takes in all this marvelous place has to offer - from its scintillating temples to quaint villages and endearing people.

Day 1 - Arrive Yangon


Explore the diverse downtown region of Yangon, starting in Chinatown at a traditional Chinese Temple and heading through the vibrant neighborhood streets. Pass through mosques, synagogues, a Hindu Temple, many colonial era buildings and the famous Strand Hotel. There is an option to meet with a palm reader near Sule.

Day 2 - Yangon (B)


Optional: Wake up early and head to Shwedagon Pagoda to join the locals on their morning Tai Chi session. On request, a private lesson with a Tai Chi instructor can also be arranged (client's account).

Visit the most revered Buddhist monument in Myanmar this morning, Shwedagon Pagoda, and then head to Kyaukhtetgyi Pagoda, a 70m long reclining Buddha. Next visit Ahlein Sint, an unusual temple adhering to a supernatural phenomenon. After lunch guests visit Mahasi Monastery, a well known meditation training center where Exo guests can take part in a one day program.

Day 3 - Yangon - Golden Rock (B,L)


Depart Yangon for Kyaikhtiyo and the Golden Rock, A 5-hour ride. Then, travel by foot along a paved path from a junction camp up to the Golden Rock. This huge gold leaf covered boulder is one of Myanmar's main pilgrimage sites.

Day 4 - Golden Rock - Bago - Yangon (B,L)


Return to Yangon by open air truck, stopping at Bago en route. Visit a nearby Mon neighborhood that's known for its production of beautiful woven textiles. Also visit the Mon-style Shwemawdaw Pagoda with its 114 meter spire and the extravagant Hinthar Gone Pagoda. On the way back to Yangon it time allows, stop at the Allied War Cemetery near Htaukkyan.

Day 5 - Yangon - Ava - Mandalay (B)


Head to the Yangon airport for your flight to Mandalay. Stop at Ava on the way to Mandalay. In town, board a ferry to to the other side of the river where a horse and carriage are waiting. Visit Bagaya Monastery as well as several villages amongst Ava's ruins. Check into Mandalay and head to Mandalay Hill followed by Ku Tho Daw Monastery, also known as the world's largest book. The final stop is at 63rd Street and its numerous stalls, with time to visit Visit Maha Lawka Yan Hnain Aung Daw Mu Myat Swar Paya.

Day 6 - Mandalay - Sagaing - Amarapura - Mandalay (B)


Your guide will collect you and drive to Sagaing across the Irrawaddy River, home to several grand pagodas and temples, including on perched atop Sagaing Hill. Continue on to Amarapura to visit a number of monasteries before then driving to U Bein Bridge, a 200 year old wooden teak bridge that spans 1.2km, the longest of its kind in the world.

Day 7 - Mandalay - Mt Popa (B,L)


Option: Wake up early in the morning and head to Mahamuni Pagoda to witness the ritualistic washing of the Buddha's face.

Take a scenic drive to Bagan and Mount Popa, stopping along the way to visit local villages and meet those who live there. Stop at the famous 'snake temple' in Paleik before taking lunch in Meiktila. Stay tonight at the Popa Mountain Resort with fabulous views over the surrounding area.

Day 8 - Popa - Bagan (B,L)


Climb to the top of Mt Popa in the morning and admire the panoramic views from it summit. Then drive to Bagan for a horsecart ride through its temple strewn plains, stopping at one to admire the sunset.

Day 9 - Bagan Sightseeing (B,L)


Spend a full day soaking up the impressive sights of Bagan. From visits to a scenic temple overlooking the vast plains to the mighty Ananda Temple, you will experience the finest Bagan architecture and pass through small villages such as Myinkaba. In the afternoon take a private riverboat and set off upstream toward Kyauk Gu U Min, witnessing life along the banks of the Irrawaddy River.

Day 10 - Bagan - Yangon - Departure (B)


After breakfast transfer to Airport for flight to Yangon.
