Yangon - Mawlamein - Excursion to Shampoo and Bilu Islands - Hpa An

Travel to the Burmese countryside and immerse yourself in the culture and beautiful nature of Hpa An and Mawlamein. Traveling by road from Yangon, this five day Myanmar tour is ideal for those seeking to visit an unexplored corner of the country.

Departing from Yangon, your first stop on this Myanmar tour is the historic town of Bago where you'll visit Shwethalyaung Temple, home to one of the world's largest reclining Buddha statues. The drive then takes you around the Gulf of Martaban to Mawlamein in the heart of the Mon State.

Mawlamein is your base for the next two days of your Myanmar tour, allowing plenty of time to explore the town and its surroundings. Located at the confluence of four rivers close to the coastline, Mawlamein is a fertile area filled with plantations as well as small fishing villages.

You'll start the second day with a boat trip to Shampoo Island with a morning visit to local villages and the monastery before transferring back across the water to Mawlamyine. From here continue to Bilu Kyun, known as Ta Kaw Sa Man in Mon, which means 'Orge Island'.   After a restful night depart for a walk around the morning market where a vast array of produce and goods is being bought and sold. A visit to Kyaik Thanlan is likely to be a highlight of your Myanmar tour, a spectacular hillside temple with fabulous views of the countryside. A visit to Queen Sein Don Monastery and U Zina Pagoda round out your day of sightseeing in Mawlamein.

On the fourth morning of your Myanmar package tour, drive to the Kayin State and its sleepy capital of Hpa An. While in the area, you'll visit Buddha-filled caves and the iconic Mt Zwe Kabin, where Rudyard Kipling drew inspiration for his poem 'Mandalay'.

Before returning to Yangon, take a boat trip along the Than Lwin River to a secluded temple and cave. The riverine views and tranquil scenes leave a lasting impression of this beautiful area and are a fitting end to your Myanmar tour.

For visitors wanting to step away from the main sites and discover traditional rural Burmese lifestyles, Hidden Treasures of Myanmar is the perfect extension to a Myanmar tour.
