The tour begins in Yangon, where you will set about discovering the spiritual and colonial heritage of the city. Home to the countries most revered Buddhist temple, Shwedagon Pagoda and the equally impressive Kyaukhtatgyi Pagoda. The second day of the Ancient Kingdoms Tour continues on to Mandalay where temple hopping ensues and learn about Myanmar’s cottage industries, famous for their highly skilled craftsmanship and products.

 

Over the space of one day this Myanmar package departs from Mandalay to explore the former capitals of Amarapura, Ava and Sagaing. Cross the Irrawaddy River to reach Sagaing, widely regarded as the spiritual hub of Myanmar and home to 3,000 monks and 100 meditation centers. Browse the local market and observe the process of making pottery water pots at a local pottery village. On land and water explore the ancient capital city of Ava before visiting the ‘City of Immortality’ Amarapura and crossing the 200 – year old teak bridge of U Bein.

 

Once back in Bagan travelers will immerse themselves in local culture paying a visit to a bustling market and have the option of taking an early morning balloon ride over the plains of Myanmar’s cultural capital. This 6-day Ancient Kingdoms tour is the perfect introduction to amazing Myanmar and its even more incredible people.

Day 1 - Arrive Yangon


Welcome to Yangon!  After transferring to you hotel set off on an afternoon city tour starting at Kyaukhtatgyi Pagoda to view its 70-meter long Buddha statue and continuing to Kandawgyi Park and a chance to rub shoulders with the locals at a tea shop. As today comes to a close, watch a magnificent sunset over the gilded dome of the holy Shwedagon Pagoda.

Day 2 - Yangon - Mandalay (B,L)


Take a short flight to the city of Mandalay where you will spend your day exploring the pagodas and temples of this spiritual town, beginning with Mahamuni Pagoda. Your day will be broken up with visits to local cottage industries to observe local craftsmen at work. Continue the tour with stops at Kythodaw Pagoda (home to the world's largest book) and Shwenandaw Monastery before enjoying sunset from the peak of Mandalay Hill.

Day 3 - Mandalay - Amarapura - Ava - Sagaing - Bagan (B)


Today you will visit three ancient capitals of Myanmar (Amarapura, Ava and Sagaing) where you can stroll between temples, pagodas monasteries. Visit a market, climb up a hill, stop at a silk workshop and enjoy a horsecart ride before taking a leisurely stroll with the locals of the 200 year old teak U Bein bridge. Take a late afternoon flight to Bagan.

Day 4 - Bagan (B)


An optional start this morning to see Bagan from a hot air balloon. Today will give you a deep insight into the cultural and historical heritage of the city.  Visit several temples and learn about their history before visiting laquerware and wood craft workshops and local villages. Head back to the hotel for a quick rest before ending your day on the waters of the Irrawaddy with a river cruise to a riverside village, temple and cave.

Day 5 - Bagan (B)


Today choose from three excursions depending on your interests.  Learn about the legends of Bagan while exploring local sites, explore the areas surrounding Bagan on bicycle or experiencing Bagan as a local with a community tour.

Day 6 - Depart Yangon (B)


This morning transfer to the Nyaung U Airport for your flight to Yangon. Connect to your onward international flight or ask your travel consultant about extending your stay in Myanmar.
