Amara Resort - Kalaw - Overview
Built in 1909 and restored to present modern day standards in 2002, Amara Resort Kalaw is the hill station town's colonial residence.

Guests will truly experience what folks 100 years earlier have done, all amidst the cool mountain air, green trees and colorful gardens. Private and homely, guests are further treated with unobstructed views over the Shan mountain range. Fronted by warm Burmese hospitality, nature guests yearning for a colonial mountain resort experience amongst the Burmese hills are in for a treat here.

Rooms are bright, airy and spacious. Red curtains contrast nicely against the soft white linen, bed sheets and walls. Smooth wooden floors give out a natural and soothing aura. Rooms come in two configurations, either in a double bedroom format or in two single bed setting. The in-room fireplace is more than just decorative, it actually keeps guests warm during the chilly evenings and nights. Basic amenities are all present.

The on-site restaurant further enhances the mountain resort feel, located amongst the property's trees and gardens and with great forest views. On hand are the familiar tastes and smells of Western food as well as the exotic and colorful dishes of Burmese.

The town is small enough to explore by bicycle. Guests can rent their own set of two wheels and discover the hill station town for themselves. The business center provides the necessaries for those who need to stay connected.

Amara resort Kalaw is everything the hill station town is all about. Hints of colonialism, a bit or Burmese character, some color, atmosphere and of course comfort up in the cool mountains of Myanmar.

When to go?

Myanmar has three main seasons. The hottest weather is from February to May when temperatures can reach 35 Celsius during the day time. However, it is very dry this time of year. Rains begin in May and continue through to October, although usually does not hamper touring greatly as the rains tend to be short and heavy rather than all day drizzle. The best time of year to visit Inle Lake is October to February when the air is cool and dry.
