Tokyo - Nikko - Hankone - Mt Fuji - Kamakura - TokyoOur Tokyo and Beyond tour introduces the fascinating and beautiful diversity of the Kanto region. Starting in Tokyo, we discover what it was like for an Edo Period Lord to stroll through his pristine gardens as we spend time at Hama-Riyuku. Then we hop aboard a boat and head down the Sumida River to visit Tokyo's old town, Asakusa, home to the impressive Sensoji Temple. Leaving the vibrant lights of Tokyo behind, we head beyond to the spectacular Nikko National Park located in Tochigi Province and visit the intricately decorated Toshugu-shrine complex set amidst a stunning forest. Back at your accommodation, enjoy a superb multi-course kaiseki meal before bathing in a hot onsen bath. We take some time out to visit Lake Chuzenji-ko, a volcanic lake set high in the mountains around Nikko that dates back 20,000 years. The area is also home to the 100 meter tall Kegon Falls. From here it's back to Tokyo to board the Shinkansen bullet train and make our way to Hakone, the gateway to Mt Fuji and surrounding National Park. Accommodation tonight is in the form of a traditional Japanese-style ryokan with tatami mats, shoji rice paper sliding doors and onsen baths. Spend the evening relaxing in your lightweight kimono and the following day exploring all that Fuji Hakone National Park has to offer. Ride the world's second longest cable car up Mt Owakudani, passing over sulfurous fumes, hot springs and bubbling rivers in this volcanic area. We also take a replica pirate ship across Lake Ashinoko, offering unrivalled views of the majestic Mt Fuji. On your penultimate day we explore the small seaside town of Kamakura, a quaint town hiding many shrines, temples and idyllic beaches. Day 1 - Tokyo
