Okinawa is an island chain located half way between Japan and Taiwan. Stretching for over 1000km, it has been both an independent country, as well as falling under Chinese and U.S. rule, giving it uniqueness in its culture that you won't find anywhere else in Japan.

We can arrange departure flights from any of the 3 major cities of Tokyo, Kyoto or Osaka to carry you into Ishigaki, making this program an excellent add on at the end of one of our Japan tours. On your Okinawa beach break, spend your first day relaxing and unwinding to the slow pace of life in Ishigaki. Re-charge yourself and start exploration of the islands and their friendly people the following morning. The next 3 days are completely at your leisure with a number of options open to help in your exploration of the isles. The crystal clear waters are ideal for snorkeling with a mesmerizing and abundant marine life just below the surface. You can also hire a car to head out into the forested interior and embark on some treks through the forest. Or just drive from beach to beach!  Why not take a boat and visit Taketomi Island? It is just 10 minutes away with a population of only 300 and a perfectly preserved Ryukyu village. Slightly further away, Iriomote Island is one of Japan's last true wildernesses, with great hiking in the national park.

Fly from Tokyo, Osaka or Kyoto to visit Ishigaki, part of the Yaeyama Islands, famed for its undiscovered, pristine beaches, forested interior and welcoming charm.

Overnight in Ishigaki.

Spend 3 full days relaxing in Ishigaki, exploring the untouched beaches and neighboring villages, meeting locals and swimming in the clear blue seas. Hire a car and explore further into the island or take a boat trip to other nearby islands. Slightly further away, Iriomote Island is one of Japan's last true wildernesses, with great hiking in the national park.

Overnight in Ishigaki.

Head back to Tokyo, Kyoto or Osaka.
