Day 2 - Kinosaki - Kyoto/Osaka (B)
Today is a self-guided day.
After breakfast, or even before, head to an onsen or two for ”asayu” as morning bathing is called in Japanese.
After check-out, you can leave your luggage with reception, and visit Onsenji, a Buddhist temple halfway up the hill at the Western end of town.
The temple was founded in 738 and was the first stop for visitors in the old days to pay their respect before soaking in the beneficial hot spas. There are some temple buildings at the trailhead and it is a 30-40 minutes’ walk uphill to reach the main hall. Alternatively, you can take the ropeway to ”Onsenji”, the first stop. Near the temple’s main hall stands the Kinosaki Art Museum, with its small but interesting collection.
If the weather is nice, you can also take the ropeway all the way up to the observation desk. You will be rewarded by fine views of Kinosaki and the Japan Sea.
Return to Kyoto in the late afternoon.
