Tokyo - Hakone/Mt Fuji - Kyoto - Nara - Kyoto


Delight your senses with an awakening trip to the spectacular 'Land of the Rising Sun'. Arrive in the eclectic capital city of Tokyo for 3 days of cultural immersion. Visit Hama-Rikyu Teien, the former private garden of an Edo period lord, witness a tea ceremony and take a boat cruise along the Sumida River. Visit Tokyo's old town then continue onto Omotesando to witness the high end fashion district. There is also a 'free' day in Tokyo for you to explore at your own pace.

Leaving Tokyo behind, guests make their way to Hakone, the gateway to Mt Fuji and Fuji Hakone National Park. Stay in traditional ryokan accommodation and savor the delights of classic Japanese cuisine with a multi course kaiseki meal.

Spend a full day exploring Fuji Hakone National Park. Ride the world's second longest cable car and take a cruise across Lake Ashinoko, admiring the spectacular landscape. Enjoy a relaxing soak in a hot 'onsen' spring for a final time before boarding the famous Shinkansen bullet train to Japan's cultural capital Kyoto, home to an astonishing 2000 Shrines and Temples, including 17 UNESCO World Heritage Sights. Learn about Japanese culture in a beautifully restored machiya townhouse, where you will adorn a traditional kimono and participate in several traditional Japanese arts and customs.

After exploring the former imperial capital of Kyoto for two days, it's a short trip to Nara, another former capital and home to the world's largest wooden building. There is also time to wander through Nara Park and see the large population of local deer that roam free. The final day is at your leisure until your included transfer returns you to the airport.

Day 1 - Tokyo Arrival


Arrive in Tokyo to be welcomed by our representative who will assist you with your hotel transfer. Enjoy the rest of your day unwinding in Tokyo at your leisure.

Day 2 - Tokyo (B)


Begin the day with a relaxing guided walk through Hama-Rikyu Teien. Witness a tea ceremony and take a boat cruise down the Sumida River. Visit the old town of Tokyo and pay a visit to the modern Omotesando shopping district.

Day 3 - Tokyo - Optional Day Trip (B)


Take time to explore the city at your own pace today. Visit the energetic Tsukji Fish Market, explore the electronics district of Akihabara and world class museums or take a day trip out of the city.

Day 4 - Tokyo to Hakone/Mt Fuji (B,D)


Depart Tokyo for Hakone, the gateway to Mt Fuji and surrounding national park. Stay in traditional ryokan accommodation for a quintessential Japanese experience.

Day 5 - Hakone/Mt Fuji (B,D)


Spend a full day exploring Fuji Hakone National Park. Take a cable car up the mountain and traverse back down by train with breathtaking views at every turn. Cross Lake Ashinoko on a replica pirate ship surrounded by some of Japan's most stunning natural scenery.

Day 6 - Hakone to Kyoto (B)


Travel on the world famous Shinkansen bullet train to Kyoto. Kyoto is home to a breathtaking 2000 Shrines and Temples, including 17 UNESCO World Heritage sights. This afternoon guests adorn a traditional kimono and pose for photos. Next, guests will learn some origami, calligraphy and the traditions behind the Japanese Tea Ceremony. Finally, guests will observe an instructor performing the Japanese art of ikebana (flower arrangement).

Day 7 - Kyoto (B)


Learn the stories behind some of Kyoto's World Heritage Sites with a knowledgeable local guide. Visit Nijo Castle, the Golden Pavilion and Daitoku-ji Zen temple complex. Finish the day with a stroll through the atmospheric Higashiyama district.

Day 8 - Kyoto - Nara (B)


Make the short 45min trip to Nara, home to Todaiji Temple, the world's largest wooden building. Take a gentle saunter through Nara Park where large populations of tame deer roam.

Day 9 - Kyoto Departure (B)


Departure day. Enjoy at your leisure until transferring by direct train to Kansai Airport.  If departing from Tokyo Narita airport, your included Japan Rail Pass will cover your transfer as well (afternoon and evening flights only).
