Arrive in the bustling and happening cosmopolitan mega city of Tokyo, where despite its fast sprawling modernization, pockets of culture and tradition continue to flourish. Experience some of Tokyo's past glory as you embrace the environment of a traditional garden, explore the city's old town and discover ancient temples and traditional shops.
From here, make the transfer to Kamakura, the former de facto capital of the country during the Kamakura Period (1185 - 1333). Once the world's biggest city, it is now just a modest town. Ancient temples await, ranging from the Bamboo Temple, Jomyoji and Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine.
Say sayonara to the big city and hop on the bullet train to Kyoto, the country's longest reigning capital (794 - 1868). The city is undoubtedly Japan's cultural center, home to over 2000 shines and temples, 17 of which are UNESCO Heritage Sights. Start with a food tour through the market to purchase ingredients for an evening cooking class and dinner. The next day is then spent visiting its marvelous shrines and temples.
Take a 45 minute train ride to the next stop at Nara, the capital of Japan from 710 -784. Nara is an interesting small town, filled with temples over 1300 years old, most of which are concentrated in Nara Park. Two recommended stops are Todaiji Temple, the world largest wooden building as well as home to Japan's largest Buddha and at Kasuga Taisha, the town's most celebrated shrine. The park is also home to hundreds of deer and according to Shinto, are messengers of the gods.

Experience some of the city's cultural flavor. Experiences include a stroll through an historical garden, a boat cruise along the Sumida River and excursions through the old town, visiting temples and traditional shops.
Overnight in Tokyo Day 3 - Tokyo - Kamakura Day Trip (B)
Enjoy a Japan day trip at Kamakura. The sleepy town still holds many of its temples, shrines and monuments during its reign as the de facto capital during the 12th - 13th centuries.
Overnight in Tokyo Day 4 - Tokyo - Kyoto (B,D)
Board the world famous bullet train for the two hour trip to Kyoto. Head to the market with an expert, purchase ingredients and engage in a memorable cooking class/dinner experience.
