Kyoto or Osaka - Hiroshima - Miyajima - Kyoto or Osaka

Bask yourself in the wide boulevards, intertwining rivers and tree-lined streets of Hiroshima. Now known for its excellent cuisine, friendly people and numerous museums, the city has recovered well since August 6, 1945, becoming one of Japan's best-known modern and cosmopolitan destinations, with a laid back environment and ambiance to match.

What is a Japanese tour in the island of Honshu without a ride on the famous bullet train? While zipping through Japan, keep an eye out for Himeji Castle, also known as the White Egret Castle and the Seto Ohashi Bridge linking the main land with Shikoku Island. At 13.1km it is the longest two- tiered suspension bridge in the world.

Step out of the train and explore some world class museums and galleries. Fine works from famous artisans such as Andy Warhol and Henry Moore are on display at the Hiroshima City Museum of Contemporary Art. The Prefectural Art Museum exhibits the traditional works of Hiroshima, Japan and Asia while the Hiroshima Museum of Art displays modern Western pieces in addition to contemporary Japanese paintings. For a museum featuring a recent phenomenon, check out the Hiroshima City Manga Library, home to comics and famous Japanese cartoons. Car enthusiasts can visit the Mazda Museum and fuel their need for speedy machines.

Head out to Hiroshima Memorial Park, built to honor the victims of the atmoic bomb, right where the tragic event took place. Stroll through the park and discover many memorials, monuments and statues.

Take a short tram and ferry ride to Miyajima, a small wooded island in the Inland Sea.

Explore the 6th century Floating Torri Gate as well as the many shrines and temples. Take an optional hike up Mt. Misen for spectacular vbird's-eye view of the surrounding islands.
