OVERVIEW

The architectural landscape of Kyoto, largely considered as Japans cultural capital is home to countless temples, shrines and traditional structures. Be immersed in the distinct local culture when you visit a family's home where lunch will also be served. Continue onto a textile products wholesaler's studio and home which also conveys a sense of what it is like to live and work amid the traditionally rich and culturally vibrant Kyoto.

PROGRAM DETAILS

Today's program includes visits to two different Kyoto-style traditional wooden housing with a local guide.

The first visit is to the Yamada families' house. Ms Yamada will show you her house, and explain how the family is trying hard to retain the beautiful wooden structure. A special lunch box using local Kyoto vegetables cooked in a traditional way will be served.

Ms. Yamada can tell you what Kyoto locals eat for lunch these days.

Then we will visit a textile products wholesaler's house. This house is a good example of a rich merchant's house, and you can see the differences between the owner's room and the room for apprentice workers.

It is an ideal way to learn about local life and people as well as to see different types of houses.

The tour will take around 2.5 hours.
