Sanda Butik Villas - Belimbing - Overview
Nestled in the foothills of Mt. Batukaru in Bali’s central highlands, Sanda Butik Villas in Belimbing is a sublime mountain sanctuary.

Set in expansive semi-detached bungalows, the eight stylish suites are decked out in a cozy palette of cream, beige and brown. The floor-to-ceiling windows, opening into a private terrazzo-tiled terrace, command breathtaking vistas of the rustic environs. Rattan daybeds offer comfortable lounges to indulge in some reading, or simply, to take in the restful views. At sundown, the candelabras dotted around Sanda Butik are illuminated, further adding a touch of intimacy and serenity to this retreat.

The brainchild of a Danish expat couple, Sanda Butik embraces a strong environmentally and socially responsible profile. The team of friendly staff is hired from nearby villages. The fruit, vegetation and coffee plantations ensure a year-round supply of fresh, organic produce for the on-site Plantations restaurant, as well as a cup of freshly brewed coffee amid the cool highland climate.

The dazzling freshwater infinity pool, overlooking the valleys and distant hills, guarantees a rejuvenating dip in its slope-hugging location. For those ready to discover the remote sights of Bali, head to Blehmantung waterfall to swim in its cascading waters or embark on a four-hour trek to take in Mt. Batukaru's beauty at sunrise.

Who should go?
Our advice: a sophisticated boutique hotel situated in central Bali's highlands, Sanda Butik Villa Belimbing Bali is a delightful escape from the lowland heat and tourist crowds that throng Bali's south coast. Due its remote location, the hotel has little entertainment and dining options in its vicinity but guests can be assured of a restful stay. It also makes a great base for venturing into the lesser-explored northern and western areas of Bali.

When to go?
Bali experiences a tropical climate with temperatures hovering around a balmy 30°C year round. Sightseeing is generally the most enjoyable during the dry months of April to September, which see sunnier and less humid weather with the occasional shower. The wet season lasts from October to March, during which daily downpours are common but short-lived. Due to Bali's diverse topographies, temperatures vary across the island, so always bring a warm sweater or light jacket when visiting the highlands.

Where is it?
In the foothills of Mt. Batukau just south of Pupuan, Sanda Butik Villas is perched 700 meters above sea level surrounded by rice terraces and small village. Located approximately 60 km northwest of Kuta, it is approximately two hours from the airport and 50 minutes from Lovina. The drive between Antosari and Pupuan is known to be particularly scenic.

What's not to be missed?
Savor the organic Robusta coffee grown on the villa grounds. Relax by the infinity-edged swimming pool. Stroll through the surrounding coffee plantations. Sample fresh fruits and vegetables harvested from the gardens. Take in glorious mountain and paddies views at sunset. Chat with the owners over gin at nightfall.

What's cooking?
The Plantations restaurant sits like a huge bale enclosed by panoramic views of Bali's famed terraced fields and mountains. Experienced local cooks put their ingenious touches to Balinese and European cuisine to serve tantalizing dishes. For a more intimate experience, guests can dine at the two smaller bales by the pool. At this coffee plantation retreat, coffee lovers can look forward to fresh, aromatic brews throughout their stay.
