OVERVIEW

Head to the coastline near Jogjakarta and take a break from the city as you explore the fishing villages, caves and sand dunes of Depok Beach on our Java Sand Dunes and Beaches Jogjagkarta day trip. You’ll visit the seafood market and bargain with the locals for the day’s freshest catch, enjoy lunch at the seaside and visit a popular pilgrimage site for the locals. Climb to Langse Cave, see Sahara-like sand dunes and watch the sun set from the cliffs of Parangtritis beach. 

PROGRAM DETAILS

Just a short drive from Jogjakarta is an enchanting coastline with beaches, sand dunes and a unique local atmosphere. Spend today exploring this area.

You'll be picked up from your hotel at 10.30AM and drive to Depok Beach and its bustling fish market. Walk around the stalls and see the array of seafood for sale and join in the bargaining fun and buy your own fresh seafood for lunch. Then, at a nearby stall, the locals will cook your selection as you request (grilled, fried, etc) and serve it to you for lunch in a local restaurant.  

After lunch, around 13.00PM, leave the beach for a drive past spectacular sand dunes, a rare site in Southeast Asia. Stop for photos and to enjoy the expansive sandy, desert-like areas.

Visit the graveyard of Syeh Bela Belu, a famous local figure. By making the pilgrimage to his gravesite- walking over 100 steps- the locals believe you will have a spiritual experience and ward off evil spirits by making the pilgrimage.

Continue to Langse Cave, a popular meditation spot. Also called 'Queen of South' cave the walk to the top is challenging and uses a series of ropes and bamboo ladders to traverse the steep cliff. Reaching the mouth of the cave, you will be rewarded with beautiful views of the ocean.

Before returning to Jogjakarta, head to the rocky hills overlooking Parangtritis beach. This beach is noted not only for its sand dunes and rocky cliffs but is also part of a Javanese legend called 'Kanjeng Ratu Kidul', or Queen of the South Sea.  Watch the sun set over the sea from this rocky hill and then return to Jogjakarta this evening.

Note : It is suggested that you do not wear green clothes out of respect to the local people who believe that wearing green will bring misfortune. (L)
