Escape to the tranquil town of Kampong Thom and the temples of Sambor Prey Kuk. Witness tranquil countryside scenes, traverse small paths among towering monuments and enjoy a delicious picnic among the rice paddies. Depart from the busy capital city, Phnom Penh, and travel west to Kampong Thom. Stop at Kampong Cham, a sleepy riverside town with charming colonial buildings and a laid-back feel. As you continue the drive, enjoy typical the countryside scenes of ox carts, farmers and small villages which line the road.

Arrive in Kampong Thom and head to the pre-Angkorian temples of Sambor Prey Kuk for a guided tour on bike or on foot. Explore these incredibly well preserved temples as you travel through the forest, far away from the tourist crowds. A picnic lunch is served in the tranquil surroundings, a perfect way to end your tour.

Stay at the boutique Sambor Village, a small hotel on the banks of the Stung Seng River. Tucked away in a lush garden with a shady swimming pool, the Sambor Village is a tranquil base from which to enjoy the charm of Kampong Thom and intrigue of the Sambor Prey Kuk temples.

Before departing the next day, enjoy a morning at leisure in Kampong Thom visiting the local market or relaxing beside the hotel pool. Travel onwards to Siem Reap or return to Phnom Penh filled with lasting memories of the incredible temples of Sambor Prey Kuk.

Day 1 - Phnom Penh - Kampong Thom (D)

Depart from Phnom Penh and travel through the Cambodian countryside to Kampong Thom. Upon arrival in Kampong Thom head to Sambor Prey Kuk, 6^th and 7^th century temples lie hidden deep in the jungle, well off the tourist trail and free of crowds. Accompanied by a local guide, bike or walk through these well-preserved ruins and learn about the history and religious significance of the buildings. Enjoy a delicious lunch at the temples, prepared for you by the local community and continue to a community-run shop established to help preserve traditional crafts made of bamboo and rattan.

Overnight in Kampong Thom.

Day 2 - Kampong Thom - Phnom Penh - Departure (B)

This morning, enjoy some time at leisure to relax at the hotel or to discover Kampong Thom on your own until your return transfer to Phnom Penh. Alternative plans can be made to continue onwards to Siem Reap instead.
