Travel from Phnom Penh through the lush Cambodian countryside to Battambang. Although it is the country's second largest city, Battambang feels world's away from the capital as it is exudes a relaxed, laid-back atmosphere. Upon arrival, check in to your chic colonial-style hotel, take a stroll through the town and enjoy a delicious welcome dinner.

Spend a full day exploring Battambang and its surroundings starting at Phnom Sampeau, a hilltop temple with sweeping views of the landscapes. Continue through rural laneways and fruit orchards, stopping to taste the local delicacies, before reaching Wat Banan.

Board the local 'bamboo train' for an exhilarating ride through the rice fields as you continue on your countryside journey. Day 1 - Phnom Penh - Battambang

Depart from Phnom Penh by road arriving this afternoon in Battambang, a charming riverside town full of French-colonial architecture. Even though Battambang is Cambodia's second largest city, you will find that the atmosphere is very laid-back and a big change from the capital city. Relax and enjoy dinner at your hotel this evening.

Day 2 - Battambang (B,D)

Spend today exploring Battambang's countryside, a real taste of the natural beauty and traditional lifestyle common in rural Cambodia. Travel out to Phnom Sampeau, once home to notorious killing caves, but now a tranquil place for viewing the surrounding landscapes. Continue through fruit plantations to the hilltop temple of Wat Banan followed by an exciting ride on the local bamboo train. This afternoon, continue through the countryside to visit cottage industries like rice paper production, weaving centers and even a fish paste factory. Return to town this evening for a fantastic local dinner at the town's best restaurant.

Day 3 - Battambang - Phnom Penh - Departure (B)

This morning, enjoy some time at leisure to relax at the hotel or to discover Battambang on your own until your return transfer to Phnom Penh or onwards to Siem Reap.
