Terres Rouges Lodge - Ratanakiri - Overview
Nestled in the remote and undeveloped northeast of Cambodia, Terres Rouge Lodge is a beautiful lakeside oasis for those seeking up-country isolation.

Centered around an old French-colonial Governor's house and decorated with Cambodian antiques and tribal objects, the 14-room Terres Rouge Lodge is not only one of Rattanakiri's most inviting properties but one of the best in all of Cambodia.

Highlighting the unique hilltribe culture of the area, each of the 14 guest rooms is fashioned out of local materials and decorated with tribal crafts and antiques, yet modern amenities including air conditioning, internet and cable television are available to satiate the modern traveler's needs.  Stepping foot out of these serene and private rooms, guests will be mesmerized by the natural scenery and peaceful aura that surrounds them.

The main building at Terres Rouges Lodge was once the holiday home of the former French governor and still echoes of that era with its sweeping verandas and wrought iron lamps.  Like the rooms, regional handicrafts fill the lobby and public spaces.  Despite this fabulous interior, it's the picturesque outdoor surroundings that are the true highlight at Terres Rouges with lush gardens, towering trees and the beautiful Boeung Kan Siang Lake filling the property.

Rounding out the property at Terres Rouges Lodge is a 14-meter long pool which is flanked by a spa as well as a pool bar.  At Le Jovial Jarai, the finest bistro in the province, guests will enjoy their choice of Khmer, Chinese or French cuisine in a convivial atmosphere.

Far from the tourist trail, the rugged yet elegant Terres Rouges Lodge is the perfect escape for intrepid travelers. The relaxing atmosphere, spectacular surroundings and splendid rooms make the arduous journey to Ratanakiri well worth the effort.

Who should go?
Our Advice: for those seeking a remote retreat, Terres Rouge Lodges in Ratanakiri offers the perfect remedy. Capturing the rich culture of the region and showcasing the rugged beauty of Ratanakiri, the Lodge will please any outdoors lover or culturally-curious traveler wanting to step off the beaten trail.

When to go?
Cambodia experiences the heaviest rainfall from September to October with the driest period occurring from January to February.  The rainy season, which runs from May to October, can see lower temperatures than the dry season but comes with high humidity.  The rains are heavy but usually come in short spurts.  The rainy season sees Cambodia with the least amount of tourists.  The dry season lasts from November to April where temperatures can rise up to 40 °C around April.  The best months to visit Cambodia are November to January when temperatures are cooler and humidity level is lower.  However, this is also the country's high tourist season, so bookings should be made in advance.

Where is it?
Banlung is a small town in Cambodia's eastern Ratanakiri Province. It is a 3 hour boat ride or an arduous 4-6 hour drive from Stung Treng, the town at the Cambodia-Lao border or an arduous 4 hour drive. From Phnom Penh, it is recommended to stop via the town of Kratie or Kampong Cham to break up the 10 hour drive. Coming from Vietnam's Pleiku, travelers can cross at the Le Than border crossing and then drive a further 2 hours to the lodge.

What's not to be missed?
Hiking in the nearby jungles. Kayaking on the beautiful Boeung Kan Siang Lake, just next to the Lodge. A relaxing Khmer massage. A refreshing dip in the swimming pool. Sunset cocktails at what has been named 'The Best Bar in the Middle of Nowhere' by Time Magazine.

What's cooking?
Overlooking the lush gardens of the Lodge, diners at Le Jovial Jarai are invited to sample superb local and international cuisines. Although provincial specialties highlight the menu, a selection of Chinese and French dishes are also available all of which are prepared using local herbs and spices whenever possible. The casual chic atmosphere at the bar makes it an ideal spot for evening drinks .
