Who should go? For those yearning for a quiet resort in the middle of Phnom Penh, Mysteres and Mekong is the place to be. Characterized by shady trees, green gardens and a peaceful environment, guests may be thinking that they are actually by the beach instead of in downtown Phnom Penh. The property only really features a swimming pool, so those yearning for a boutique spa experience may need to look somewhere else.
When to go? The climate in Phnom Penh can be separated as wet or dry. From May to October, monsoons blow inland, making these months the wettest of the year. Temperatures can reach as high as 40 °C and is accompanied by high humidity. The rains are heavy but short. These times also correspond with the city's low tourist season, which makes bookings much easier. The dry season lasts from November to April with some days experiencing cool temperatures while others seeing some very hot days. Weather-wise, November to January are the best times to visit. However, this is also the high tourist season, so bookings should be made well in advance.
Where is it? Mysteres and Mekong is located in heart of the capital, close to Wat Botum Pagoda and within walking distance to the Royal Palace, the silver pagoda, the national Museum and the banks of the Mekong River. Phnom Penh International Airport is approximately seven kilometers west of the city.
What's not to be missed? A dip in the refreshing swimming pool. A stroll along the Grand Palace. Absorbing the country's history at the National Museum. Watching a scenic sunset by the bustling riverside.
What's cooking? Surrounded by shady palms and green gardens, the poolside features a bar and restaurant, decorated with the tropical feel that has come to define the property. International and local meals as well as a nice cocktail list are more than enough to soothe and relax.
