Hanoi - Hue - Hoi An - My Son - Danang - Nha Trang - Dalat - Ho Chi Minh City

Vietnam is a country filled with captivating natural beauty and tranquil village life. It has lush, hillside towns and beaches that are amongst the finest in all of Southeast Asia. What better way to explore the wonderful scenery of the country than on two-wheels.  Although motorbikes and cars are increasingly popular in the big cities, bicycles still rule the roads in the rural areas, so join the locals as you saddle up for this fantastic journey!

This cycling adventures starts in the capital city Hanoi in the north, and ends in Ho Chi Minh City in the far south. En-route, you will cover more than 450kms as you visit the most spellbinding places the country has to offer.
Having explored Hanoi and its stunning surroundings, you will head south to Hué, the former Imperial Capital.  Dominated by majestic temples and ancient tombs, it is a town in which time seems to have stopped.

After Hué you will ride to Hoi An, a charming old trading town situated on the banks of the Thu Bon River.  On a day trip from Hoi An, cycle along quiet back roads to My Son, which was an imperial city during the Cham dynasty. Your journey continues as you double-back up the coast via the Marble Mountains to Danang for a flight to the white sandy beaches of Nha Trang.

From the beach, head to the cooler temperatures and lush hills of Dalat before reaching your final stop, Ho Chi Minh City.  Vietnam's largest city is a far cry from the solitude experienced on the open road, but its buzz and energy create an exciting atmosphere.  Celebrate your achievement with your fellow travellers over a farewell dinner before heading home to share the memories of your adventure with friends and family.

We think you'll agree: there is no better way to experience the wonders of Vietnam than by bike!

Creating Unique Touring Experiences
All the touring itineraries on this website have been carefully crafted by our in-country management teams and represent a series of experiences we can certainly recommend. However, we understand that every travel experience should be as unique and individual as each traveller. Our consultants are waiting to hear from you so that we can tailor or custom design a tour to your individual specifications.
Day 1 - Hanoi (B)

Early flight in required. This morning, spend a few hours exploring Hanoi by bus and on foot. Drive to West Lake for fresh coconut juice and croissant on a pontoon café, to shake away any jetlag that you might have. Continue out on to Ho Chi Minh's Mausoleum to visit the exterior of the final resting place of president Ho Chi Minh, his old residence and one pillar pagoda. Then enjoy a cyclo tour through the vibrant street scene of Hanoi's Old Quarter. Hanoi became Vietnam's capital in 1010, and still has many preserved ancient architectural works including the One Pillar Pagoda and the Temple of Literature. This afternoon, a bike fitting will set your equipment for the journey and you might have time for a short test-ride through Hanoi. Before dinner there will be a full trip briefing.

Overnight in Hanoi.

Day 2 - Hanoi (B,L,D)

For early risers, head to Hoan Kiem Lake to see the local Vietnamese practice their morning Tai Chi and then enjoy a local breakfast of Pho Bo (beef noodle soup) in the town. Or, return to the hotel for a continental breakfast. The morning ride features a cycle through the outskirts of Hanoi. Running alongside the Red River, you pedal on a dyke path, a fascinating introduction into life outside the big capital. Return to the hotel for an afternoon at your leisure. After an early dinner, transfer to the train station for the overnight ride to Hue. (Today's cycling is approximately 35km)

Overnight onboard the train.

Day 3 - Hue (B,L,D)

In the morning, arrive in to Hue, Vietnam's cultural capital. Our cycling journey takes you into town and across the Perfume River to Hué's Imperial Citadel, where you can explore this sprawling complex, rich with history, on foot. Cycle out to the countryside along dirt tracks to the Mausoleums of Tu Duc and Khai Dinh. Ride past relics and ruins until you reach the end of your journey at the beautiful Thien Mu Pagoda situated on the banks of the Perfume river. In the evening, enjoy the delicious flavours of Hué cuisine at a local restaurant. (Tonight's cycling is approximately 45km)

Overnight in Hue.

Day 4 - Hue - Hoi An (B,L,D)

Today provides a classic days cycling. Starting just outside of Hué you will begin riding along a picturesque, very narrow peninsular road from Thuan An beach to Vinh Loc. You will then hop on a local ferry to cross the Perfume River estuary before joining the legendary Highway 1 at the base of today's 3 hill climbs! Reward your hard work with a swim at Lang Co Beach and re-fuel with lunch as there is one more hill of the day - the Hai Van Pass. Challenging, yet manageable, this ride is full of breathtaking views. After the climb, relax as you transfer by van the rest of the way to Hoi An, a delightful old trading town and UNESCO World Heritage Site. Relax over dinner and drinks or perhaps a traditional massage for sore muscles! (Today's ride is approximately 100 kms)

Overnight in Hoi An.

Day 5 - Hoi An - My Son - Hoi An (B,L,D)

Set out for a challenging ride from the outskirts of Hoi An on a quiet back road to the famous Cham Towers of the, My Son. My Son was an imperial city during the Cham dynasty, between the 4th and 12th centuries, and more than 70 towers and temples remain rising majestically from the rice paddies. The ride is through a remote area where very few tourists venture, and surrounded by stunning views. You will arrive tired but triumphant at these most wonderful towers and enjoy a picnic lunch before transferring back to Hoi An for dinner. (Approximately 60km of riding today)

Overnight in Hoi An.

Day 6 - Hoi An - Danang - Nha Trang (B,L,D)

After leisurely breakfast, enjoy some free time in Hoi An before cycling side roads via the Marble Mountains to Danang for the short, afternoon flight to Nha Trang where 10km of white sandy beach await! Upon arrival, visit the SOS Childrens' Village and learn about the wonderful work being done to help disadvantages children in the area. Afterwards, there may be time for a sunset stroll along the beach or a massage before hopping in to a local cyclo (or trishaw) for your ride to dinner. (Today's ride is approximately 30 km)

Overnight in Nha Trang.

Day 7 - Nha Trang - Dalat (B,L,D)

This morning, transfer past the busy traffic of Highway 1 to the Po Klong Garai Cham towers. Start riding from here along 40kms of flat road, after which it is up, up, up, all the way! The road is quiet and shady for the most part as you pedal steadily upwards, past the roar of crickets and fluttering butterflies. The ascent exceeds 1000meters, but it is possible to conquer all the climbs with a steady pace, determination and good use of gears! As you near Dalat, the journey is rewarded as the temperatures begin to cool and lush green fields and hills fill your vision. (Today's ride is approximately 100 km)

Overnight in Dalat.

Day 8 - Dalat - Ho Chi Minh City (B,L,D)

Rise early for a not-to-be-missed Dalat cycling loop. Pedal the quiet back roads in the shadow of Langbian Mountain, stopping en route to visit a flower farm, and enjoy great views of Dalat. Then, let the fun begin with the ride to Ho Chi Minh City - downhill all the way! Ho Chi Minh City, still referred to as Saigon by the locals, is a busy, buzzing city. Look beyond the towering buildings and you will uncover tragic reminders of past wars, unique local art galleries, and small vibrant markets. (Today's ride is about 80km)

Overnight in Ho Chi Minh City.

Return to Saigon with plenty of time to browse the central Ben Thanh market, visit the War Remnants Museum or take a cyclo ride around the city for an up close view of street life.
