Detailed Tour Itinerary
Day 1 – Bangkok – Samut Songhkhram - River Kwai
Drive south of Bangkok to the garden province of Samut Songhkhram in the Mae Klong river delta area. First visit a unique country market along the railway tracks. See the train arrive bringing the people to the market. Afterwards visit Continue to Tha Kha, one of the many floating markets where local people come together to sell their produce. Take a fascinating paddleboat journey through the waterways to visit a family that makes coconut sugar syrup at their teak house. After a glass of the sweet juice, take a boat ride through the maze of canals. Stop to visit some beautiful and interesting local temples to a temple where you a 400 year old banyan tree and replicas of traditional Thai boxing before arriving at Rama II Park. Continue to Kanchanaburi for lunch at a local restaurant overlooking the famous bridge on the River Kwai, built by Allied prisoners of war during World War II. Also visit the JEATH Museum. Continue to your riverside hotel for dinner.
Day 2 – River Kwai – Elephant camp – Bamboo Rafting – Tiger Temple - Kanchanaburi (B)
After breakfast visit an elephant camp where you can experience and elephant ride through the jungle and along the Kwai Yai River followed by a gentle bamboo raft ride. After that visit Hellfire Pass museum and take a short trek through the canyon. Then continue to visit Wat Pha Luang Ta Bua - well known as Tiger Temple. The Tiger Temple is a rescue centre for wild animals and the home of wild tigers, wild pigs, deer, antelopes, water buffalos, apes and a hand full other animals. The tigers are taken out from their cage in the afternoon and visitors can see them walk through a canyon with the monks. Overnight in Kanchanaburi.
Day 3 – Kanchanaburi – Suphanburi – Ang Thong - Ayuthaya (B)
After breakfast drive through scenic ricefields to Suphanburi. Visit the City Pillar shrine, and Wat Pa Lelai an 80 year-old temple with a huge seated Buddha. Continue to Ang Thong province to see the Sukhothai period reclining Buddha at Wat Pa Mok Worawihan on the west bank of the Chao Phraya River and Ban Phae; Drum making village. Arrive in Ayuthaya in time to visit Wat Chai Wattanaram, Wat Phra Mongkon Bophit and Wat Phra Sri Sanphet.
Day 4 – Ayuthaya – Bang Pa In – Return to Bangkok by Horizon Cruise (B, L)
After breakfast visit Chantharakasem National Museum and some of the other temples in the historical park. Continue to Bang Pa In to see the summer palace built by King Rama IV at a time of growing European influence in Thailand. See the Italian inspired palace building and surrounding temples. Also visit Wat Nivet Thammapavat a gothic inspired temple beside the river. Then catch the Horizon cruise boat for lunch and an afternoon cruising down the Chao Phraya River to Bangkok (arrive 5pm)
