Hotel updates

Construction of the Naga Resort Hotel, in Phnom Penh, and its 600 deluxe rooms, slot machines and card tables were completed in late 2003 and the hotel is now open to guests.

The new 400-room 4-star Phnom Penh Hotel opened in Phnom Penh in November 2003. The hotel’s facilities include French, Japanese and Chinese restaurants, a health club and a poolside bar.

Siem Reap’s new Khemara Angkor Hotel is now open and offers guests 130 air-conditioned rooms, a swimming pool, a fitness centre and a sauna.

Shinta Mani

In November 2003, Sanctuary Resorts opened a boutique hotel called Shinta Mani in Siem Reap. The 18-room hotel is also an institute of hospitality that offers disadvantaged and misguided Cambodian youth hotel training. Facilities at the hotel include free Internet access, modern conveniences, a pool, an art gallery and a drawing room. Another deluxe hotel will be coming to Siem Reap in September.

Hyatt and its Cambodian governing bodies approved the plan for a new hotel in Siem Reap, whose exact location has not yet been determined. The hotel will have 700 rooms and will be set in lush tropical gardens. Work on the hotel will commence within the next year and is scheduled to open between late 2005 and early 2006.

The Angkor Palace Hotel will be situated not far from the airport road in a huge garden and will offer 70 rooms, several villas and full facilities including restaurants, bars, a lobby, a swimming pool and a spa.

The Sokha Beach Resort in Sihanoukille plans to open in April 2004. The new resort, rated 3/4-star, will offer 180 rooms and eight deluxe bungalows, as well as three outlets, eight beach bars, a spa, water sports, a tennis court, a swimming pool, a sunset terrace and a 9-hole golf course.

 

Mekong Express resumes operations

On 1st October, the Mekong Express resumed operations to and from Phnom Penh and Siem Reap on the Tonle Sap. On odd days, the tour boat will journey from Phnom Penh to Siem Reap at 8:00 and arrive at 13:00. On even days, the boat departs Siem Reap to Phnom Penh at 8:00 for the five hour journey. Each ticket includes lunch and drinks.

 

Cambodia and Thailand sign agreement in Siem Reap

Siem Reap

Cambodia and Thailand’s Prime Ministers met recently in Siem Reap to sign an agreement that would allow citizens of both countries to travel across the borders shared by the two countries without the need of passports or visas for up to seven days. The officials also decided to open the Preah Vihear Border, which has been closed since December 2001.

 

 

Visit the Phnom Penh Cultural Centre

Two years and 2.5 million USD were spent in renovating the cultural centre in Phnom Penh. Visit the newly remodelled centre to see cultural performances, movie screenings, concerts, fairs and exhibitions, and also to host company dinners.
