THE HOTEL @ THARABA GATE OPENED IN BAGAN

 Tharaba Hotel

A new international standard hotel opened it doors on 15 December 2002 just next to the remains of the ancient Tharaba Gate, once the gate to Old Bagan. Within a few minutes’ walking distance is the spectacular Ananda Temple, one of the finest temples in the Bagan area with four huge standing Buddha statues.

The hotel has a total of 86 rooms (56 superior, 26 deluxe and 4 suite rooms). For the moment only 64 rooms are completed, the other 12 rooms will be given the final touch in the low season, so guests won't be disturbed during the coming season with construction people working on the property. Other hotel facilities include an air-conditioned indoor restaurant and an outdoor terrace serving Asian and western dishes. The swimming pool will be open starting from the official opening day.

The hotel was constructed in just nine months and is owned by six different local and international partners. The architect David Wordworth was also responsible for the construction of the Thazin Garden Hotel in Bagan and the renovation of the famous Strand Hotel in Yangon. The hotel staff has been trained during the last five months at the hotel training school of the Summit Parkview Hotel in Yangon. Although some of the staff are new to tourism, you can be assured that the service will always be with a big and genuine smile.

Remarkable at the hotel is the traditional Bagan construction style, giving it a charming atmosphere in which to stay and the different Bagan style mural paintings in each room. All room are tastefully decorated in teak wooden furniture and feature in-house movies, tea making facilities and hair dryer. This excellent, new superior category hotel in Bagan is welcomed by Exotissimo and will definitely help to ease waitlist problems.

The famous French-Indochina restaurant Le Planteur is opening an outdoor terrace in town down Yangon, just two minutes walk from Scott's Market. The terrace in front of Zawgyi House will be called Zawgyi Café and is the perfect spot to recommend to your clients for ice cream, coffee, sandwiches or salads after shopping for souvenirs in the market. For the best lunch or dinner in town we would still recommend Le Planteur Restaurant situated north of Kandawgyi Lake.
