Raffles International Hotels and Resorts are to
present a one-off ‘Evening at Angkor with Jose Carreras’. This event
is a charity concert featuring world-renowned tenor Jose Carreras
against the backdrop of the magnificent Angkor Wat, one of the world’s
most famous heritage sites.
This extraordinary concert will take place under the
stars on Friday 6th December 2002. José Carreras, one of the best
tenors in the world, will perform together with the Singapore Symphony
Orchestra and a cast of hundreds of dancers, singers and musicians from
the National Dance Troupe of Cambodia.
Only 1,000 privileged guests will be able to
experience this once-in-a-lifetime show, and enjoy gourmet dining
prepared by chefs from Raffles International and Raffles Grand Hotel d’Angkor
with vintage wines and a unique fusion of modern and classical music at
the temple complex.
Tickets for the black-tie dinner and charity concert
are priced at US$500, US$1,000 and US$1,500. Four charities will benefit
from this performance: the Cambodian Red Cross, Veterans International
for Landmine Victims, WildAID, and SOS Children’s Villages.
Preparations for this special event began about one
year ago, and will culminate in lights, sound systems, generators
and other equipment, the tableware, food and Californian wines to be
specially flown in for this event. His Majesty King Norodom Sihanouk and
Her Majesty Queen Monineath Sihanouk are Distinguished Patrons. The
Cambodian government, especially the Ministry of Tourism, Ministry of
Culture & Fine Arts and the APSARA Authority, have lent their full
support and cooperation. The Prime Minister of Cambodia, His Excellency
Samdech Hun Sen, and Lok Chum Teav Bun Rany Hun Sen will grace the
evening as Guests of Honour.
Caltex and MasterCard, the main sponsors, together
with co-sponsors Bangkok Airways, Cathay Pacific and Robert Mondavi
Winery, have also made it possible for this charity event to take place.
Several individual benefactors have also given generous contributions to
this event but have chosen to remain anonymous.
Behind the scenes, a cast of close to 1,000 people
will help make 6th December a night to remember - 40 chefs, 100
service staff, 60 back-of-house staff, some 400 dancers, and about 400
singers, musicians, technicians, engineers, security personnel,
production crews and other assistants.
