Many of these areas are surprisingly still intact and trips to both cities hold promise for great times and memories.
Starting in Hue, Vietnam's capital from 1802 to 1945, you'll enjoy many sites that reflect the city's rich history, while others are more focused on relaxation and soaking up the area's natural beauty. Highlights include a cyclo tour of the 'Old City', Tinh Tam Lake and Khai Dinh's Tomb.
The ancient port town of Hoi An was once the largest harbor town in Southeast Asia. Its well-preserved structures from the 15th to the 19th centuries are perfect examples of architecture that blends local and foreign influences, making the town a popular destination. A cycle tour of the local farm region of Tra Que village and a walking tour of UNESCO Hoi An are sure highlights.
There will also be several instances during this trip where you can decide for yourself how you want to pass the time. Whether its a quiet moment to relax and have a spa treatment or an exciting speedboat excursion, the choice is yours. Day 1 - Arrival in Hue
On arrival, your guide will take you to the stunningly restored La Residence Hotel & Spa. Your first afternoon in Hue is at your leisure to relax with a massage or take a stroll around town. This evening you're taste buds will be tantalized with a wonderful Vietnamese dinner at a charming restaurant in Hue.
Overnight in Hue. Day 2 - Hue (B,L,D)
Today, begin your exploration of Hue with a visit to the Imperial Citadel, where the Nguyen Dynasty ruled between 1802 and 1945. Take a cyclo tour of the 'Old City' to Tinh Tam Lake, a favorite spot to unwind for the Emperors'. After lunch at one of Hue's most renowned restaurants, visit Khai Dinh's Tomb, combining Vietnamese and European touches. At the end of the tour visit the recently restored An Dinh Palace where magnificent murals can be seen, as well as the stunning façade where oriental and European designs are integrated.This evening you'll dine at a beautiful garden house, locally known as 'nha vuon', a magical setting for dinner.
Overnight in Hue. Day 3 - Hoi An (B,L)
Sightseers will surely appreciate this day which includes a stop at the 500-year-old village of Phuoc Tich offering a taste of ancient Vietnam, the historic Thanh Toan Bridge and the 500-year-old village of Phuoc Tich. Travel south to Danang City via the scenic fishing village of Lang Co and a visit to the Cham Museum. The day's adventure concludes with a drive to Hoi An where you'll enjoy new accommodations at the luxurious Nam Hai Resort.
Overnight at Hoi An. Day 4 - Hoi An (B,L)
View and experience rural Vietnamese first hand today by spending some time with a local farming family who will tell you about their daily lifestyle. After breakfast take a cycle tour of the local farm region of Tra Que village where you will have the opportunity to partake in some of the daily gardening activities of the village. Ride back to Hoi An and enjoy a leisurely orientation tour of the town's wooden fronted houses by foot before enjoying the evening at leisure. Overnight at Nam Hai Resort. Day 5 - Hoi An - Danang Departure (B)Your final day is one of leisure and there are plenty of choices of how to spend your time before departing. Options include simply enjoying the accommodation or taking a Vietnamese cooking class. Adventurous types may opt for a private speedboat tour of Cham Island and it's surrounding Marine Park before transferring by private car to Danang Airport or international flights or domestic connections.
