Amantaka Hotel - Luang Prabang - Overview
The latest luxury property from the highly-respected Aman group is Luang Prabang’s Amantaka. After years of planning, this elegant resort draws on Luang Prabang’s reputation as the last true bastion of Indochinese romance to create a hotel surpassing expectations.

Amantaka Luang Prabang was designed and renovated by renowned architect Pascal Trahan, using graceful buildings constructed in the early 1900s. Staying loyal to the traditional style of Lao architecture, Trahan and the Aman group carefully restored the 15 buildings to their original grandeur while incorporating modern luxury features for which the group has become known.

Stepping into the property through the main reception area, guests are greeted by an open-air French colonial mansion surrounded by shady verandas. Beyond the expansive foyer, the building opens out to a leafy courtyard where mango trees, lush foliage and an inviting swimming pool add to the property’s enchanting ambience.
Encircling the edge of the courtyard are 24 elegant suites, each entered into through louvered doors. The spacious rooms are bright and airy with high ceilings, exquisite furnishings and a private outdoor sitting area. Pool Suites feature private pools while two special Amantaka Suites have their own exclusive spa treatment rooms as well as individual indoor and outdoor dining areas.

The Amantaka encompasses all of the exceptional elements that the group has built its reputation upon: unparalleled service, gourmet dining and top facilities. The Aman Spa boasts the best treatments and products in the region and the fitness facility includes a tennis court in addition to a yoga studio. Whether enjoying a pre-dinner aperitif and cigar or dining in a secluded spot around the property, Amantaka’s Restaurant promises to be one of the city’s most sought-after tables.

The uniquely sculpted Amantaka luxury hotel Luang Prabang offers more than just a place to stay but rather a distinctive lifestyle experience unparalleled by other properties in Laos.

Who should go?
This upscale property from the famed Aman group is the latest luxury hotel in central Luang Prabang. While blending in with the charm of the city and the lush natural surroundings, the Amantaka stands head and shoulders above other hotels and resorts. Unparalleled service, spacious yet intimate suites, lavish facilities and gourmet dining make Amantaka the ultimate getaway for discerning travelers to Luang Prabang.

When to go?

From November to February the weather is cool and dry while March to June sees temperatures soaring in to the high 30s (Celsius).  July to October tend to be very rainy, washing out some roads thus making rural areas inaccessible.  Pii Mai, Lao New Year, is in April and the celebrations include parades and water fights.  Local Laos return to their home towns at this time of year meaning that hotels are often full, so be sure to book in advance if traveling in April.

Where is it?
The Amantaka is located south of Mount Phousi on a quiet sidestreet. The city’s main sites, such as Wat Xieng Thong and the Royal Palace, are within walking distance as are the majority of the dining and shopping options.  The international airport is approximately 15 minutes by road and the Kuang Sii Waterfalls are located 45 minutes south of the Amantaka.

What's not to be missed?
An indulgent massage at the famed Aman Spa. Gourmet dinner at a private villa. Rising early to watch the monks’ alms procession. Aperitifs and cigars at the Lounge Bar. Watching the sunset over the Mekong River.

What's cooking?
The Amantaka offers several options for guests to indulge in gourmet cuisines and lavish drinks within the luxurious property. The Dining Room, with its airy colonial ambience, serves French-influenced and local Lao cuisines while the Pool Terrace offers a selection of light snacks and international favorites. Slip back in to the elegant colonial days with a drink and a cigar at the Lounge Bar, where an extensive list of wines and spirits are sure to please every palate. The Amantaka also offers private dining for an intimate experience in secluded candle-lit sections of the courtyard or, for guests staying in the Amanataka Suites, en suite at their private indoor and outdoor dining areas.
