Perched on a breathtaking hillside between a steep river valley and tranquil rice terraces, Maya Ubud Resort & Spa strikes the perfect balance between luxury and comfort. An outstanding fuse of traditional Balinese form and contemporary function, the Maya Ubud offers more than just a stay but rather a complete Balinese experience.

From the moment one steps foot on the 10-hectare property, the Maya Ubud provides a delight to all the senses with hints of Balinese culture found at every turn. The 108 rooms and villa suites are spacious and breezy, with attached terraces that unveil gorgeous views of the surrounding paddy fields and river valley. Natural colors and local materials are elegantly integrated into the design, with the use of river stones as flooring and alang alang leaves for the thatch roofs. Some villa units feature their own private plunge pool, offering an intimate slice of paradise on this tropical island.

The resort offers a well-conceived range of recreational amenities and cultural activities. A glass-edged infinity pool, which appears to suspend over the lush valley, provides an enticing spot for a lazy idyll. Nestled between the Petanu River and verdant jungle foliage, the luxurious riverside spa treats guests to calming massages while soothed by the running waters. Discerning palates will not be disappointed with the gourmet restaurants, which offer a sophisticated selection of Indonesian and Asian specialties. For a change of scenery, a regular shuttle service whisks guests to Ubud, Bali's cultural enclave.

Who should go?
Our advice: Maya Ubud Resort & Spa is recommended for honeymooners or travelers who wish to get away from the bustle of Bali's beaches and main spots. Its location in Ubud, the cultural heart of Bali, will appeal to those interested to experience the traditional Balinese culture in greater depth. This resort is less suitable for families with young children as there are no kids' facilities and children are not permitted into certain areas such as the River Café and spa pool.

When to go?
Bali experiences a tropical climate with temperatures hovering around a balmy 30°C year round. Sightseeing is generally the most enjoyable during the dry months of April to September, which see sunnier and less humid weather with the occasional shower. The wet season lasts from October to March, during which daily downpours are common but short-lived. Due to Bali's diverse topographies, temperatures vary across the island, so always bring a warm sweater or light jacket when visiting the highlands.

Where is it?
Maya Ubud is located in eastern Ubud within walking distance to the Ubud center. For guests who prefer to skip the walk, a regular shuttle service runs between the Ubud and the resort. Ngurah Rai International Airport is 55 kilometers, or approximately a 45-minute drive, from the resort.

What's not to be missed?
A refreshing cocktail over panoramic valley vistas at Bar Bedulu. An invigorating Balinese massage at the riverside spa. An enchanting Balinese dance at Purnama Theatre. A guided nature walk around the lush hillside property. A cycle around the surrounding lush landscapes.

What's cooking?
The signature restaurant Maya Sari Asiatique serves an innovative selection of Indonesian, Thai, Japanese, Chinese and Indian specialties with views of the surrounding courtyard and fountains. The River Café, with its idyllic setting beside the Petanu River, offers a delightful menu of light snacks, healthy "spa cuisine", pasta and pizza. Enjoy an exotic cocktail concoction and panoramic views at Bar Bedulu, a charming thatched roof pavilion overlooking the valley and surrounding villages.
