Siem Reap

With its dramatic silhouette and crown of towering stone pinnacles, Angkor Wat is one of the most famous and recognizable monuments in the world. Yet, as extraordinary as it is, on this special four-day tour you'll soon see that there is so much more to Angkor than just Angkor Wat.

Built during the golden age of the Khmer Empire, Angkor was at one time the heart of the most powerful and advanced civilization in Southeast Asia. Abandoned in the 15th century, Angkor was quickly enveloped by the jungle, its stone halls and shaded shrines remaining only as a site of pilgrimage. 'Discovered' again in 1858 by French naturalist Henri Mouhout, Angkor set fire on Western imaginations, quickly becoming the most famed and romantic 'lost city' in the world.

Assisted by your knowledgeable Exotissimo guide, you'll be taken on a journey of discovery beyond the main sights as we visit some of Angkor's most fascinating, yet least-known temples. You'll walk under the gaze of the enigmatic stone faces in the Bayon, journey into the jungle to Banteay Srei, and slip under the grasp of a strangler fig at the Ta Phrom. Then, venture out to the Tonle Sap Lake, for a boat ride through stilt-villages and flooded forests.

Enjoy evenings in the delightful town of Siem Reap at your choice of hotel, ambling through the narrow lane ways, browsing the arts and crafts local to the region and dining in a number of the town's top spots for traditional Khmer food in exquisite environments.

Nobody knows Asia's secrets like Exotissimo. Let us show you the mysteries of Angkor in style...

Day 1 - Arrive in Siem Reap (D)

Temples Of Angkor - 4 Days / 3 Nights - itinerary

Upon arriving in Siem Reap, you will be met by your guide, who will transfer you to your deluxe accommodation. After freshening up, you'll be treated to a massage at your hotel to relieve you of any travel weariness and revive you for your exploration of the Kingdom of Angkor.  Start at your discovery at the Angkor National Museum for an interesting introduction to the history on a visit guided by an expert in this field.

This evening, a traditional Khmer Welcome Dinner will be served.

Overnight Siem Reap.

Day 2 - Siem Reap (B,L,D)

You'll have a full morning at Angkor Wat, the best-preserved temple in the area, and the world's largest religious structure. Your guide will take you through the galleries to show you their stunning bas-reliefs, which depict scenes from the epic Ramayana and the Churning of the Ocean of Milk.  Experience the temples from land and sky as you embark on a thrilling microlight flight over the Angkor complex before heading back on land to explore the temples of the small circuit, including Ta Prohm.  Ta Prohm is unique in that it has been left largely as it was found: overgrown by jungle trees and vines, with many parts of the temple crumbling to the ground.

Tonight a special Khmer dinner will be served for you at Apsara Theatre, where your meal will be accompanied by traditional Khmer Apsara dance.

Overnight in, Siem Reap.

Day 3 - Siem Reap (B,D)

Temples Of Angkor - 4 Days / 3 Nights - itinerary

This morning you'll delve into the forest on a visit to Banteay Srei, an elaborately carved pink sandstone temple known as the citadel of women. On the way back to the hotel, take the opportunity to stop at local communities to observe how they produce rice paper and other commodities.  This afternoon, you will visit the ancient city of Angkor Thom, the last capital of the Great Khmer Empire under the reign of Jayavarman VII.   From the back of an elephant, ride around the South Gate of Angkor Thom before finishing the day's temple exploring at Bayon.  Towards sunset, we drive out to Tonlé Sap Lake, where a handcrafted riverboat will take you on a champagne cruise along Tonlé Sap Lake.

This evening enjoy a French inspired dinner.

Overnight in Siem Reap.

Day 4 - Depart Siem Reap (B,L)

This morning we head to the countryside where you can spot water buffalos, kids in school uniforms on their bicycles and oxcarts. Pay a visit to a silk farm to observe the fascinating production process.

As a farewell from Cambodia, enjoy a special picnic lunch in middle of the beautiful rice fields before returning to your hotel, where you will have time to relax before the transfer to the airport for your onward flight.
