Exotissimo Fuses Nature and Ethnic Experiences in New Laos Tours

Bangkok, Thailand, 3 November 2009

Exotissimo unveils two new programs in Laos, perfect for travelers seeking to explore the country’s unspoiled landscapes and to experience hill tribe cultures at ground level.

Exotissimo Travel, Southeast Asia’s leading destination management company, is expanding its Laos portfolio with two exciting tours.

Exotissimo’s Luang Say Cruise and Kamu Lodge is a 3-day program specially designed to immerse travelers in the laidback charm of the Mekong River in northern Laos. Traveling from Huay Xai in the Thai-Lao border to Luang Prabang, this tour includes a two-day cruise on the Mekong aboard the Luang Say boat, a 34-meter elegant vessel modeled after the traditional riverboats.

The river journey includes several shore excursions to hill tribe villages, cottage industries and unusual caves and an overnight stay in the small town of Pakbeng. To further enhance the journey, Exotissimo has added a stop at Kamu Lodge, a riverside retreat near Luang Prabang. At Kamu Lodge, travelers have ample time to participate in a wide array of hands-on activities to fully experience the lifestyles of the area’s hill tribes. Travelers are welcomed to plant rice in the paddy fields with local farmers, pan for gold in the Mekong River or embark on jungle walks in search of indigenous herbs.

The Akha Experience is a 3-day experiential ecotourism trek that immerses travelers into Laos’ hill tribe cultures in an authentic and responsible manner. Blending scenic treks through pristine landscapes with local homestays, this community-based trek is jointly developed by Exotissimo and eight Akha villages in the Muang Sing area. Designed for culturally curious travelers with a strong interest in sustainable tourism, travelers are afforded rare access to and insights into the true Akha way of life.

Under the expert guidance of local guides, travelers will trek across the picturesque mountains surrounding Muang Sing with nights spent in community lodges belonging to the Akha villages. During these homestays, travelers are presented with unique opportunities to share home-cooked meals with their host families, listen to Akha legends and folk songs or observe the youth in their courtship rituals. They can also participate in daily village activities such as buffalo riding, rice pounding or cotton spinning.

“Much efforts have been expended in researching and developing these new tours as we want to offer travelers a genuine discovery experience in Laos. Traversing into some of the most scenic and remote parts of Laos, our guests are sure to encounter pristine landscapes and exotic cultures,” said Anne Cruickshanks, Group Product Manager of Exotissimo Travel.
