Sailing in Thailand

Jun 10th, 2008 by Exotissimo | Comments: 0

sailing-in-thailand.jpg

In recent years, the crystal blue Andaman Sea has quickly become host to a booming yachting industry, and for good reason. Thailand’s numerous tropical islands and warm marine waters are the perfect backdrop to a memorable holiday on a yacht.

From kayaking and fishing to snorkeling and diving into the warm marine waters, yachting provides enough variety for most small groups. It is quite possibly the best way to enjoy the Andaman Sea’s rich marine bounty away from the maddening crowds, perfect for small families, groups, and especially honeymooners.

Exotissimo has recently begun chartering yachts on behalf of our clients, and have listed three of our favorites.

The S/Y Meroja is an 85-foot ketch that has sailed the Andaman Sea since 1998. Originally built by local craftsmen under the supervision of experienced European shipwrights, the Meroja has created for itself a reputation for comfortable cruising in its five air-conditioned staterooms. The four person crew (European skipper, Thai cook and two deckhands) are at your disposal, ready with expert seamanship, local knowledge and comparative luxury.

Seraph is one of the more storied ships plying the waters around Phuket. Originally built outside of Copenhagen in 1906, she evokes the romance of a bygone era. She has aged well, and in recent years she has been updated with a modern galley and air-conditioned cabins. With a capacity of 8pax, this 58.5 foot schooner is a cozier alternative to the Meroja, and is a great option for anniversaries or very private weddings.

The 34-foot S/Y Siren is a recent addition to the Phuket yachting scene. Being one of the newest ships around, she benefits from having state-of-the-art safety and navigation equipment, ensuring that her guests are traveling in the safest possible conditions.Accommodating up to 20 pax, the S/Y Siren boasts of nine roomy cabins each with personal computer, en-suite bathrooms and individual air-conditioning.

New Version for Vietnamese Cinema

Mar 28th, 2008 by Exotissimo | Comments: 0

The world has traditionally paid scant attention to Vietnamese cinema, and no wonder. In a country with few cinemas and a government which has maintained strict control of the industry, films have mainly been either state-funded propaganda, or foreign-made war flicks.

But that is all set to change! In recent years, as Vietnam’s film industry has made efforts to modernize and move beyond the government-backed propaganda films, contemporary Vietnamese filmmakers have gained a wider audience with films such as Buffalo Boy and Bar Girls. In 1998, Tony Bui’s stunning masterpiece Ba mà (Three Seasons), which is set in Saigon, won several prizes at the international Sundance Film Festival.

Then, last year, in an effort to promote homemade movies, the Vietnamese government passed new laws opening cinema doors to private firms. The move was welcomed by the industry and may help spur on a “New Vietnam Realism” in film to reflect the massive renewal and modernization that is sweeping the country.

Ethnic Vietnamese director Othello Khanh’s SÃ i GÃ nhá thá (Saigon Eclipse, 2007)is one of the first productions to take advantage of the new regulations and is, he says, an allegory of the Vietnamese film industry itself. It is hoped that the feature, which is largely in English and set in present-day Vietnam, will appeal to an international audience and make a splash both at home and overseas.

Seeing many charming scenes of Vietnam countryside through films is not enough. Go and see the real Vietnam yourself. Try Mekong Delta and Cambodia Getaway- 3 Days/2 Nights Tour. This is a cruise trip in Vietnam that will bring you to explore a diversity of Vietnam’s Mekong Delta, including fishermen life on the delta, Sampan tour into Xeo Quit, colourful Cai Rang floating market, the way of life of the Cham minority with their colorful traditional woven textiles, the Can Tho’s pleasant countryside via biking.

Seriously stylish cruising in Southeast Asia

Jun 14th, 2007 by Exotissimo | Comments: 0

In the past when flying had been believed totally impossible and the aviation engine technology had not been invented and progressed much, people had used sea journey for overseas transport, using ships and cruises to travel for trade exchange or even to find new lands.

With fantastic luxury and top class entertainment onboard, today’s cruises have seen the voyage itself being the attraction. The voyages haven’t been no more for seeking new lands, but they let passengers to enjoy their laid-back time onboard, while plying the water (you could imagine that your trip was to find a new land, a land you could totally relax and spoil yourself!). Today, gone are the days of catering for the elite, this industry is geared up for the masses and is now one of the fastest growing sectors of the travel industry.

We, Exotissimo Travel, the inbound tour operator and travel agent in Indochina and Southeast Asia region has also provided cruise travel programs to the waters in the region, apart from luxury tours and tailor- made travel services to each destination in Indochina and Southeast Asia. Our cruises include cruises along the Chao Phraya River in Bangkok, Mekong River, Chindwin River, Irrawaddy River, Ayeyarwady River, or the Delta region in Myanmar, and Halong Bay in Hanoi. All cruises filled with comfortable, luxury accommodation and fine dining under sunsets and breathtaking river views and local people living on the river banks in Indochina and Southeast Asia region, like Thailand, Myanmar, Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia.

The flowing waters of Southeast Asia form some of its most spectacular geographical features. Mighty rivers flow from the highlands in the heart of the region and run outward in all directions to meet breathtaking bays. Experience these natural wonders in styles aboard luxurious vessels that are almost as spectacular as the waters they cruise!

Thailand’s Chao Phraya is often dubbed The River of Kings and Manohra’s lavishly converted rice barges offer a truly regal river experience. The 20-metre-long barges feature warm teak, Padua and mahogany woods throughout, custom designed furniture and sophisticated Southeast Asian art, and can be hired by couples or groups for private charter.

In the northeast of Vietnam, just a three-hour drive from Hanoi, is the stunning World Heritage Site of Halong Bay, a dense cluster of almost 2,000 limestone monolithic islands, each topped with thick jungle vegetation rising spectacularly from the ocean. Cruise the Halong Bay in the style of yesteryear aboard the Emeraude, a luxuriously appointed replica colonial paddle steamer with a romantic history to match the polished wood and brass fittings!

Myanmar’s Irrawaddy River is the life-line of the nation and flows through the centre of the country for almost 2000 km. Cruise its mighty waters in comfort aboard the RV Pandaw 1947, an original Scottish-built colonial steamer, commissioned at the end of the Second World War. With sixteen beautifully appointed cabins, elegant dining hall, saloon and sun deck, Ayravata Cruises offer cultural and exploration cruises in comfort.

Or enjoy the timeless landscapes of Southern Laos from your luxurious vantage point on the river-borne boutique hotel of Vat Phou. The beautiful 34-metre steel hulled craft features a charmingly appointed interior and gives leisurely cruises along the mighty Mekong.
