Preah Vihear - Mystical Mountain Ruins

Feb 20th, 2008 by Exotissimo | 0

Notorious as the stage for the final surrender of the Khmer Rouge in 1998, the northern Cambodian province of Preah Vihear was for a number of years only accessible from Thailand and remains one of the nation’s most enchanting hidden gems.

The temple which gives the province its name, Prasat Preah Vihear is set in a stunning location atop a 1500 ft cliff right on the Thai border, and is one of the most spectacular sights in Cambodia.

Visitors who follow the old pilgrims’ path up the steep scenic road to the top are rewarded with fabulous views of ocean from the cliff edge and sprawling Cambodian jungle to the south.

Although not yet restored, the temple interior features some impressive carvings and lintels, and the ruins themselves stretch for some 800 meters up the mountainside.

Until 2005 the area surrounding Preah Vihear was littered with landmines and the safest way to the top was with an army guide – but now the whole area has now been safely cleared of ordnance, and the unrestricted access to the magical mountain means its very few visitors have it virtually to themselves! Let take an excursion trip to Preah Vihear for 2 Days/ 1 Night today. We Exotissimo are waiting to serve you.
