Mandalay - Pyin Oo Lwin - Kyauk Me - Pan Hone - Namp Man - Hsipaw - Mandalay


A tour of Myanmar that uncovers the tracks of the Silk Road, taking guests along its trail from the former British colonial town of Pyin Oo Lwin in the Shan Plateau to the charming mountain market town of Hsipaw.

The spectacular journey begins with a train ride to Naung Pain Village, passing over the mammoth Gokhtiek Viaduct as it makes its way to Kyauk Me. From Kyauk Me you begin a 3 day trekking adventure through the green hills and jungle, climbing hills and descending with spectacular panoramic views along the way. Spend 2 nights at traditional homestay lodgings, sharing dinner with your host family. The friendly locals will show you around their villages with plenty of time to also freshen up after your day's trekking.

Visit jungle villages as you make your way towards the end of the trekking trail in your tour of Myanmar. On arriving back at Kyauk Me, a car will transfer you to Hsipaw, a charming mountain town and important market venue. An early morning start here reveals the 'candlelight Market', a busy morning market filled with people from nearby villages including Shan and Palaung hilltribes. Locals gather here to sell there wares.

After breakfast set off on a boat journey along the Dokehtawaddy River, to a jetty where a private longtail boat is waiting. Cruise upstream and stop at a peaceful and beautiful swimming spot to relax. In the afternoon return to Hsipaw and take some time to explore the town on foot, enjoying sunset views over the river from one of the many hilltop temples.

Day 1 - Mandalay - Pyin Oo Lwin


Depart Mandalay on a scenic drive to the former British hill station of Maymyo, now officially called Pyin Oo Lwin. The town is located on a plateau 1000m above sea level with colonial era architecture still heavily present and botanical gardens.

The afternoon is free at your leisure to explore on your own.

Overnight in Pyin Oo Lwin.

 


Day 2 - Pyin Oo Lwin - Kyauk Me (Train) (B,L)


Depart in the morning on a local train to Naung Pain Village, passing over the staggering Gokthiek Viaduct. On arrival at Kyauk Me guests take a stroll around this charming trading town amid the Shan Hills.

Overnight in Kyauk Me.


Day 3 - Kyauk Me - Trekking to Pan Hone (B,L,D)


Begin a 3 day trekking adventure with a local guide, exploring and learning about the landscape and its inhabitants. Trek deep into the Shan Plateau till you reach your destination for the night. Freshen up and enjoy a delicious dinner while your host family tells you about the village.

Day 4 - Pan Hone - Trekking to Namp Man (B,L,D)


Continue on your trek through the village of Pan San and towards Namp Man, which is your final destination for the day. Relax here and wonder around the village before sharing a lovely dinner with your host family.

Day 5 - Namp Man Trekking - Hsipaw (B,L)


Trek uphill through the jungle to Kalar Village, also known as Gawrakha, passing through Man Aw and down to Kyauk Me. From here a car transfers guests to Hsipaw, a charming mountain market town. Spend the afternoon at your leisure exploring the town and maybe visiting the Shan Palace.

Overnight in Hsipaw.

Day 6 - Hsipaw - River trip - Hsipaw (B,L)


Wake up early and walk through the candlelight market filled with people from local villages who gather to sell their wares. After breakfast a 30 minute cruise upstream on the Dokehtawaddy River takes you to a fruit plantation and a 150 year old monastery. Continue your boat trip to an area perfect for swimming after which we head to a local hilltribe village for lunch.

Overnight in Hsipaw.


Day 7 - Hsipaw - Mandalay - Departure (B)


This morning after breakfast at the hotel, depart for the drive back to Mandalay. The drive takes around 6-7 hours and is along a sealed road in good condition. A stop will be made along the way for lunch.

Upon reaching Mandalay you will be dropped at your hotel of choice.
