Luang Prabang - Oudomxay - Luang Nam Tha - Mung Sing - Xiengkhok - Houay Xay

Northern Laos is an adventurer's delight. Quiet roads, diverse terrain, and friendly locals present a side of Laos not often seen by travellers. This 5 day biking tour allows you to discover the hidden splendor of Northern Laos on two wheels. With full vehicle support, you can opt to rest your legs and soak in the view from the comfort of a van!

Starting from Luang Prabang, you head north by bike to Oudomxay and on to Luang Nam Tha. The ride immerses you in the scenery of the area, but also provides a chance to view the diversity of the people. The Northern Region is inhabited by several groups of ethnic minorities such as Akha, Hmong and Mien.

Upon reaching Luang Nam Tha, relax by the banks of the river or stroll through town to explore its unique blend of architecture. The next morning, a spectacular ride through the Nam Ha Protected Area takes you to Muang Sing. The fresh air and dense forests are sure to revive those tired muscles!

Awake early to visit Muang Sing's local market. Join the vendors- most of whom come from the ethnic minority villages in the area- as they buy and sell fresh fruit, meats, and dry goods. The market is one of the best ways to experience the local lifestyle and culture.

The last day of cycling is alongside the Nam Ma River to Xieng Kok, a small town with wooden houses and bamboo shacks. On this peaceful stretch of road, the biggest hazards you are likely to see on the road are the cows and chickens who roam freely around the area!

What better way to finish up four days of hard cycling than with a boat ride down the Mekong. Travel past the riverside villages and fisherman before reaching the border town of Huay Xai and the end of your journey through magnificent Northern Laos.

As a former resident of Luang Prabang, I feel the best way to experience the city and the region is by electric bike. That is why I love the Splendors of North Laos Biking Tour.

This tour was designed so you can fully experience the region's amazing scenery, quiet roads and ethnic minorities. The program is also very flexible, allowing you to choose your ride and rest times. A very knowledgeable guide will accompany you as well as help arrange soothing foot and leg massages.

The highlights of tour are definitely the region's quiet roads, beautiful scenery and the numerous hilltribe villages. Later on in the tour, you will relax on a Mekong cruise to your next destination; Luang Prabang. A few days is definitely necessary for you to discover the town's hidden corners not mentioned in any guide books where you will see amazing galleries, observe original houses, taste great food and meet some of the most amazing people ever. A great way to end a memorable trip!

If you are planning on taking this trip, it is best to do a little research on the country's history and its minorities so you have a little understanding of Laos before asking deeper questions.

My next travel destination is to Indonesia, where I am scheduled to go to later this year. It will be fun! However, Myanmar is always in the back of my mind and I have to find a way to get there! Maybe arrange a business meeting there someday.
