Kyoto/Osaka - Iya Valley

Board the Shinkansen (Bullet Train) from Kyoto or Osaka to Okayama, changing to a Limited Express Train to reach your final destination of the picturesque and enchantingly remote Iya Valley white water rafting region on the island of Shikoku. On arrival a shuttle bus transports you to the beautiful and traditional hotel with panoramic river views. Each guestroom boasts shoji rice paper sliding doors, and futon beds on tatami mat floors offering the quintessential Japanese experience. Also available are soothing natural hot spring onsen baths. On your first evening you can savor a delicious multi course kaiseki meal made with fresh seasonal ingredients.

Awake in the morning to be picked up at the hotel by your rafting expert and guide who will drive you to the Koboke gorge. The Koboke section is renowned for its intensity and delivers some of the best Iya Valley white water rafting rapids in Japan. The grade 4 rapids require tactical movements which your expert guide will teach as you work as a group in your boat. Enjoy a prepared lunch on the banks of the river after a hard morning spent working your way downstream. Then it's back to the water for an active afternoon battling the rapids. Spend the night in the Iya Valley where guests can enjoy a nice soak in an onsen to wind down after an action packed day.

Awake in the glorious surroundings of the picturesque Iya Valley to enjoy the stunning jungle clad mountainous surroundings before finally departing by train to Kyoto or Osaka.

Day 1 - Kyoto/Osaka to Iya Valley (D)

Take the bullet train from Kyoto to Osaka or Okayama, changing to a Limited Express train to reach the Iya Valley region. Your traditional hotel overlooks the river and has natural hot spring baths.

Overnight in Iya Valley.

Day 2 - Iya Valley (B,L,D)

Your rafting guide will pick you up in the morning and drive you to the Koboke gorge. Enjoy the best rafting rapids available in Japan before resting for a riverside picnic. Soak in a hot onsen back at your hotel at the end of the day.

Overnight in Iya Valley.

Day 3 - Iya Valley Departure (B)

You will return by train to Kyoto or Osaka after breakfast.
