Trek Putao - Edge of the Himalayas

Yangon – Putao – Zeyardam Village – Camp 1 (Phongun Razi Route) - Putao – Yangon

This awesome 8 days trek in the least visited area of Himalayas Mountain begins with an early morning flight from Yangon to Putao which is the gateway to Myanmar Himalayas Mountain. You will be amidst the wilderness in the far distance to see the ice- capped peaks of the Himalayas. Experience overnight home stays in local villages, inhabited by friendly local tribes. Trek up and over the Shangaung forest and down the other side to spend a night in a ten- hut picturesque village by a peaceful clear stream. During the trek you will observe many kinds of exotic faunas and the world rarest orchids, not to mention bears and deer, with spectacular Himalayan views.

Detailed Tour Itinerary

Day 1 – Yangon – Putao – Shangaung Village (L,D)
Pick you up at the hotel and transfer to airport for Putao flight in the morning. It takes about 3 hours to reach Putao. Putao is the most northern town on the foothills of the eastern Himalayas. It is situated in the north of Myitkyina, the capital city of Kachin State. The city is surrounded with snow peaked mountains and the weather is cold the whole year. There are many floras and faunas to be seen in the forest surrounding this city, with different ethnic minority tribes.

In Putao, there are various kinds of orchids and even the world rarest Black orchids. For faunas, the rarest species can be seen here such as Red Panda, Black Bears and Black Deer.

After having lunch in Putao, you will proceed to Shangaung Village by car. Stay at village house. This village is the largest village on this route. Rawan and Lisu tribes live here. It lies at the foot of the Shangaung range. In Shangaung, you can see the ways of living of the Rawan tribe.

Day 2 – Shangaung Village – Warsamdam Village (B,L,D)
After breakfast, start a 7- hours trekking and have to climb over the forest- covered mountain range, named Shangaung Range (about 5000 ft).

The other side of the range is another village named Warsamdam, a small village inhabited by only 10 families, next to the beautiful stream. Stay at the village house.

Day 3 – Warsamdam Village - Zeyardam Village (B,L,D)
The distance between Warsamdam and Zeyardam Village is about 17 km. A trekking takes around 5 hours. You will walk along the riverbank and cross one suspension bridge. On the way, you can study villagers’ cultivation of Mustard, wheat and rice.

Zeyardam village is the last village on the way to Phongun Razi. The village is at the height of 3000 ft. and another small stream passes by the village. This village has about 20 houses and surrounded by very deep forests and snow-capped mountains. Stay at the village house.

Day 4 – Zeyardam Village – River Junction Camp – Zeyardam Village (B,L,D)
Today, you will trek by the route along Nat Lan creek to reach River Junction Camp which takes about 3 hours. Need to cross one suspension bridge on the way and trek through the deep forest. During the trek, you can study bamboo, rattan, creeper and orchid in this forest. Bird watching and fly-fishing are also possible activities in this forest. Overnight Zeyardam village

Day 5 – Zeyardam Village - Warsamdam Village (B,L,D)
After breakfast, walk back to Warsamdam Village along the river bank. Overnight Warsamdam village

Day 6 – Warsamdam Village – Shangaung Village (B,L,D)
After breakfast, climb the mountain range and go down to get to the village. Have lunch on the way and overnight Shangaung village.

Day 7 – Shangaung Village – Putao (B,L,D)
After breakfast, go back to Putao and have lunch at local restaurant. In the evening, you will have you free and easy time. Overnight Putao at local guesthouse

Day 8 – Putao – Yangon (B,L)
In the morning, you will have time to leisure at Putao market, find some interesting foods to have for breakfast and then shop for local souvenirs. After lunch, transfer to airport for flight to Yangon.

Note: Best time to travel is November to April
