Myanmar, formerly known as Burma, is a fascinating country, with many things remaining indigenous, sometimes even so indigenous beyond your expectation. The fifty years that Myanmar had cut off from the world undoubtedly form the country with unspoiled natures, with beautiful temples and ancient temples ruins, cultivated fields, small towns and villages, all which gradually unveil the stunning scenery and sights to visiting travelers. After that, traveling to seek for adventure and exotic lands in Myanmar is back on the map again. Myanmar has so much to offer the adventure seekers. A real treat!
Over half of the country is covered by jungles. The enormous Ayeyarwaddy (Irrawady) River dissects the country in two. Beautifully preserved temples litter the countryside. The influence of many Asian cultures, and of its former colonial master, Britain, can be seen in its buildings, customs and cuisine. Main cities dedicated as travel destinations in Myanmar include Yangon (formerly Rangoon) the capital city boasting for charming colonial architectural buildings; Bagan, an archeological zone with thousands of ancient pagodas, where you can take a bicycle tour around; Mandalay the former royal capital; Inle Lake in Shan State, home to Intha people and a favorite destination for boat trips to visit floating villages and hiking.
On the border with China, a town, Kengtung, inhabited by hill tribe people such as Akha tribe offers you an endless series of green mountains and rivers. The place is Myanmar's trekking destination. At the southeast of Bagan is the base of Mount Popa where the Burmese believe that it houses 37 Burmese 'Nat Spiritsâ€, and whose peak houses the gold stupas. From there, you can view the large plain of Bagan with pagodas field. And if you go to the northernmost part of Kachin State, you can have a trek along the edge of the Himalayas which gives you a great trekking adventure. Not last, if you are having the beach break at Ngapali, you can also make a trip to Mrauk U, an archaeological site in Rakhine State. Be first to discover the indigenous Burma.
Be first to watch worshippers applying gold leaf to holy statues in magical Mandalay. Trek up the Mount Victoria and gaze down on Bangladesh and the Bay of Bengal. Be among the first foreigners to step upon the virgin islands of the tropical Mergui (or Myeik) Archipelago. And be first to explore more!
