Cambodian Adventures: Now Is the Time

The Kingdom of Cambodia lies in the center of the Mekong region, bordered by Vietnam to the east, Laos to the north, Thailand to the northwest, and the Gulf of Thailand to the southwest. The country geography is characterized by Lacustrine plains as the bed of lake, which has been formed by the torrent of the Tonle Sap or the Great Lake. This is the heartland of Cambodia's rice cultivation. Other topography includes highlands and mountains. Cambodia's Siem Reap town, as travelers knows, is home to the UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Angkor Wat Complex, featuring magnificent art, culture and architecture of the Khmer era through the masterpieces like the Angkor Wat, Angkor Thom, Ta Promh, Bayon, Banteay Srei, Banteay Kdei and Apsara. Elsewhere throughout the country are also scattered by the ruins of pre- Angkorian and Angkorian sites. The enormity and magnificence of the ancient Khmer civilization through these ruins have always attracted travelers around the world to witness them once in a life time.

Cambodia adventure trips can be started from Phnom Penh, where you can taste the unique charm of the French colonial architecture through buildings. On the southern coastal part of the country, there are the beautiful beach towns like Sihanoukville (Kompong Som), Kampot and Battambang, with many sites remaining less untouched and several Angkor-era ruins and stunning scenery. If you seek to explore the unspoiled jungles for trekking and elephant riding, waterfalls and meeting ethnic minority groups, you can head to the pristine, remote northeast provinces of the country such as Ratanakiri, Strung Treng, and Preah Viheah, where you can visit the pre-dating Angkor site. Another popular attraction in Cambodia is the Tonle Sap where a floating town, Kompong Luong is located. You can take a boat across the lake passing the floating villages and visiting the Prek Toal Biosphere Reserve, one of the best bird sanctuary in Southeast Asia.

Kep, an attractive resort town, Koh Kong, a small border town, from which you can access to Thailand, Kratie, a town on the Mekong home to endangered river dolphins, Poi Pet the busiest town on Cambodia – Thailand border, Bokor National Park, formerly the French hill resort, Kampong Cham a nice countryside village on the Mekong River where you can meet authentic Cambodian people, Kampong Chhnang, near Tonle Sap, with plenty of fresh water fish and lively market and harbor- these are also attractive and exotic, if you are looking for a holiday to get close to nature.

After years of conflict and neglect, Cambodia has been reborn as an exciting adventure destination with countless options. Go and explore this historical country to touch its fascinating cultures and to witness unique world-renowned attractions. Get in now before the crowds arrive!

Travel from site to site within the Angkor Complex can be done via bicycling. Try Angkor Hike and Bike. You can also cycle along the Cambodia's coastal beach of Sihanoukville to enjoy the magnificent Elephant Mountains as a backdrop.
